Description

Description

Irishtown Nature Park is the third largest municipal nature park in Canada with more than 1800 acres within city limits. Home of the original water reservoir for the City of Moncton it was designated a nature park in 1996 and now has a network of trails that citizens use year-round for recreation and active transportation. The Irishtown Nature Park Trail Upgrades project is important as many of the trails have issues with drainage and experience washouts under heavy rain events. Other sections do not provide adequate structural support for maintenance equipment. This project would see strategic replacement of culverts and ditching to manage storm water as well as reconstruction of the sections where poor soils do not support equipment. Work will consist of reconstruction of approximately 1.5 km of walking trail, based on an engineering report that is being commissioned to outline areas in most critical need of improvement. The trails being reviewed are Dragonfly, Spillway, Foret Acadian and Bouctouche Line. Based on the report the project may entail working on various sections and segments of the aforementioned trails or one trail in particular. Average costs of trail reconstruction is $120 per linear meter based on recent similar projects.
