Description
Description | The Building Resilience through Employment Promotion II (BREP II) project follows on from the first phase with additional funding of EUR 18,299,700.0 million from the BMZ Special Initiative for Refugees and Host Countries. The project executing agency is UNDP. Analogous to Phase I, BREP II aims to improve income security and socio-economic inclusion of the target group in the target areas. To this end, income and employment opportunities are created through the labor-intensive rehabilitation of destroyed infrastructure and the promotion of companies. As in the first phase, the target group of the project includes internally displaced persons, returnees and the local population in the governorates of Anbar, Diyala, Ninewa, Kirkuk and Salah al Din. These regions are particularly hard hit by the consequences of conflict and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, but at the same time also have the largest proportions of internally displaced persons and returnees. The project also addresses the needs of particularly vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, women and young people. Project activities to mitigate the negative socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are integrated into the project components. BREP II comprises three components: the creation of 1) short-term employment opportunities through the rehabilitation of housing; 2) employment and training opportunities in the agricultural sector; and 3) support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to stimulate growth. The rehabilitation of residential buildings, smaller agricultural infrastructure and municipal business premises is implemented through Cash for Work (CfW) measures. In addition, agricultural businesses, individuals and MSMEs are supported through training, the provision of production resources or with grants. |
