Irrigated Agriculture Improvement Project - Additional Financing

The proposed additional financing will address cost overruns and scale up selected components of the ongoing project by (i) enhancing the water delivery efficiency and climate resilience of irrigation infrastructure for farmers, (ii) extending the good agriculture and climate smart principles and practice to an additional 200 farmers, (iii) implementing ten additional climate-smart irrigated high-value cropping demonstrations that use deficit irrigation systems, water scheduling, modern irrigation technologies, (iv) enhancing the national hydrometeorological network, weather forecasting, and flood early warning system capability of the national water resources management data center (NWRMDC) financed by the ongoing project; (v) supporting the establishment of a governance and operational capability of the NWRMDC, especially for assessment and monitoring of climate change impacts and risks, and (vi) support preparatory work and design for the future investments in flood and drought management. This is in response to the government's new investment priorities in scaling up climate action.
