Description
Description | The project involves the development of four large-scale irrigation dam projects—Radat, Barsalinga, Lowaat, and Soin Koru—together with their associated infrastructure, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework. These projects are part of Kenya’s broader National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan, which aims to significantly expand irrigated land, improve agricultural productivity, and enhance national food security. The dams are designed as multipurpose investments that will support irrigation, water supply, hydropower generation, and flood control, thereby contributing to socio-economic development in various regions of the country. The project involves constructing major water storage facilities, including high-capacity dams, reservoirs, and extensive irrigation networks such as canals, pipelines, and distribution systems. These systems will enable the delivery of water to large agricultural areas, supporting both community-based farming and commercial agribusiness. In addition to irrigation, the infrastructure will provide domestic and industrial water supply, generate renewable energy in some cases, and stimulate local economic activities through improved access to water resources. |
