This is the 2nd phase of the Water and Climate Change Irrigation Programme (200765610). The project aims to reduce the vulnerability of small farms to the effects of climate change. In particular, rainfall is expected to become more irregular; this means delays in the start of the rainy season, longer and unexpected dry periods and more frequent heavy rainfall events. To counteract this, irrigation infrastructure in the department of Cochabamba is being improved in close cooperation with existing irrigation associations. The measures include the construction or repair of dams, the construction of open transfer channels and pressure pipes and the introduction of efficient irrigation methods. Water users are being trained to later assume responsibility for operation and maintenance and are supported in carrying out these tasks in the first year after the structures are completed.
