Description

India is exploring isobutanol-diesel blending as an alternative to ethanol-diesel blending, which proved technically unsuitable. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has initiated a pilot project to assess the technical and economic feasibility of isobutanol-diesel blending. The pilot project is expected to take about 18 months and aims to study the impact of the blend across different vehicle classes. If successful, India will be the first country to commercialize this blend, which could reduce harmful emissions and decrease dependence on imported crude oil.
