Description
Description | The ISOS project has enabled the establishment of an active network of small island operators in the Maritime area and has also contributed to the creation and development of the SMILO programme, which supports small islands around the world in their efforts to manage their resources and their assets in a sustainable manner. The project partners successfully conducted pilot actions (energy, waste or heritage), and actions to raise awareness among various audiences on the fragility of island environments and the need to protect them. They actively contributed to the network created by taking part in technical workshops for sharing good practices and by jointly drafting two white papers, the flagship documents of the ISOS project. Here, the ISOS + project is constituted almost by the same partnership to which the SMILO association was naturally added as the product of the initial reflections of the first project. ISOS + will link past, present and future actions around a common vision of sustainable islands. This new project therefore aims to: - promote the products of the ISOS project such as the production of a series of mini-films on the pilot islands, a special webinar on the white papers, a ‘Celebrate Islands’ day organizes on each pilot island, etc. - develop the ‘Sustainable Islands’ network by organizing two new technical workshops (ecological restoration in island environments and island agriculture); - expand good practices by enabling islands to implement actions based on the recommendations of the ISOS project or addressing a new theme; - create an action strategy in favour of the sustainable development of small islands on a European scale, which will provide the basis for building the projects of tomorrow's islands. |
