Description | The Brazilian state of Santa Catarina implemented a multi-million dollar road construction project in Itajaí, where expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks replaced tons of conventional landfill on unstable, damp soil. This lightweight material reduced the load on the subsoil, accelerated construction, and allowed the project to be delivered nine months ahead of schedule. The project includes two viaducts, a bridge over the Canhanduba II River, and access ramps, spanning approximately 1.3 kilometers, connecting SC-486 to BR-101 to improve traffic flow and regional logistics. |
