Description

Description

The intent of this project is to significantly reduce building emissions (by over 85%) from the Ivor MacDonald Community Arena by making vast improvements to the properties envelope, mechanical, lighting, and renewable energy systems. Targeted upgrades include converting aging oil and wood boilers to an efficient closed-loop geothermal heating system, installing ductless heat pumps, adding a 75kW solar PV array, replacing fluorescent lighting with LED, upgrading controls, and increasing wall insulation. In total the project looks to reduce total on-site energy use by 87%. These comprehensive energy retrofits aim to eliminate the arena’s greenhouse gas emissions and drastically reduce operating costs. This will benefit the Thorburn community by providing continued access to an affordable, sustainable recreation facility that fosters health, well-being and social cohesion. Ultimately we seek to exceed reductions of 85% of both energy use and emissions.
