IWK Hospital - Retrofits, Repairs and Upgrades

The Project includes: Cooling System Upgrades (new chillers - one each in Children’s & Women’s Buildings) - The current cooling systems are maxed out and cannot satisfy set points during periods of elevated weather temperatures. Poses operational and safety risk as clinics shut down last year due to fainting patients. Currently no redundancy if one unit fails the building will overheat. Electrical Transformer Replacement (Children’s Building) - Replacement of two transformers in the Children’s Building. These are original transformers installed in 1969 (51+ years old). Risk to patient care and operations if a failure occurs. Insurance provider recently identified these as significant risks and will remove coverage if not improved.
