Description

Description

This Project will replace two existing air handler units (AHU) at the IWK Hospital which are nearing end of life and in poor condition. The current AHUs have inadequate capacity to accommodate current needs, let alone the needs associated with any renovations / upgrades within the building. The new AHUs will help ensure the IWK maintains adequate air flow/exchanges and temperatures in the building. The IWK will also improve HVAC / air handling systems for Children’s building Operation Rooms and critical care areas, as well as the Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), to meet standards and reduce patient risks. In addition, the IWK will also install a shop made plenum baffle made of stainless steel. This will help to provide additional weather protection to the new AHUs. It will also be used to supply an additional 600A 100% rated breaker in case of emergency. Specifically, one AHU will be purchased and installed, while a second AHU, which was financed via alternative funding, will be installed.
