The aim of the project is to increase the adaptability of the Tunisian coastal landscape to climate change. Rehabilitation and erosion protection measures along the Kantaoui South coastal section are intended to help protect the Tunisian coast from the negative effects of climate change, in particular rising sea levels. A combination of modern infrastructure measures (groynes and underwater breakwaters) and ecological measures (sand filling) will restore the beach and thus renew the natural resilience of the coast. Soils and ecosystems near the coast will be protected from erosion and salinization. The immediate target group of the project are the approximately 1,700 residents of the Kantaoui district of the city of Sousse, whose habitat will be protected by the rehabilitation and consolidation of the coast, as well as the economic actors and employees in tourism and fishing, whose jobs and livelihoods depend heavily on the sustainable protection of the coast and an attractive beach. The target population who will indirectly benefit from the project is estimated at over 120,000 people, including many tourists.
