The City of Jackson, Mississippi, implemented an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system to revitalize its struggling water system. The project involved installing about 54,000 commercial and residential water meters with AMI technology, including 18 collectors across the service area, to improve meter reading, billing accuracy, and customer service. The deployment was subcontracted to UMS and financed through a metering-as-a-service contract with Sustainability Partners, which provided upfront capital and ongoing maintenance support. The project aimed to reduce unbilled consumption, restore public trust, and put the water system on a sustainable financial path.
