Jackson County Broadband Expansion Project

planned

Jackson County is undertaking a countywide broadband project aimed at enhancing internet access in underserved areas. The project involves utilizing a federal BEAD grant to subsidize vendors, encouraging expansion of high-speed internet services in less served regions. Recent regulatory changes allow new wireless and satellite vendors to apply for funding without prior county approval, increasing competition and improving service availability. Additional efforts include cost-saving measures with Verizon contracts, IT resource consolidation, software integration for public defenders, and completion of fiber installations.
