In Flanders and Nord-Pas de Calais, the number of vegetable farms is decreasing due to a large number of retirements, economic difficulties and European and national regulatory constraints. The crops are quite similar in both areas, and identified problems and preoccupations are often analogous. The farming of fruits and vegetables is very demanding in terms of visual quality and food safety. Therefore, the partners promote an integrated and sustainable agriculture in the cross-border area. In a first phase, they improve technical exchanges and communication between both regions, to then acquire the necessary techniques for the implementation of low-input practices. Generally, the project enables the development of a pilot farm network that serves as a showcase for regional know-how.
