The Jafurah Shale Gas Development Project is a natural gas megaproject by Saudi Aramco located southeast of the Ghawar oilfield in the Arabian Desert. It involves deploying advanced drilling technology including walking rigs to speed up drilling and well completions. The project aims to produce 2 billion standard cubic feet per day of gas, 420 million standard cubic feet per day of ethane, and 630,000 barrels per day of associated liquids by 2030, potentially producing up to 1 million barrels per day of condensates at peak. The project is central to Saudi Arabia's strategy to diversify its economy and replace crude oil used for domestic power generation with natural gas, freeing up crude for export.
