Jafurah Shale Gas Development Project

The Jafurah project is a natural gas megaproject by Saudi Aramco located southeast of the Ghawar oilfield in Saudi Arabia. It involves deploying advanced drilling technology including walking rigs to develop shale gas resources estimated at 229 trillion standard cubic feet of raw gas and 75 billion barrels of condensate. The project aims to boost Saudi Arabia's gas production, replace crude oil used for domestic power generation, and support the Vision 2030 agenda to diversify the economy. Production started in December 2025, with targets to produce 2 billion standard cubic feet per day of gas, 420 million standard cubic feet per day of ethane, and 630,000 barrels per day of associated liquids by 2030.
