Jaipur-Kishangarh Highway Project

In May 2002, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) awarded a 20 year concession to GVK group of Hyderabad to upgrade the two lane Jaipur-Kishangarh section (90.4 km) of National Highway 8 (NH-8) in Rajasthan to six lanes. The Jaipur-Kishangarh Highway Project (JKHP) was part of the larger Golden Quadrilateral National Highways Development Project of the Government of India. The Golden Quadrilateral National Highways Development Project was developed by NHAI and the Department of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India and links the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata and spans a total length of 5846 km. GVK formed a special purpose vehicle, GVK Jaipur-Kishangarh Expressway Private Limited (GJKE), to implement the Rs 7060 million project (US$ 151.56 million). The project scope involved conversion of 90.4 km two lane highway to six lanes with flyovers and interchanges at major junctions and provision of state of the art highway traffic management and toll system. GJKE was further responsible for the operation and maintenance and toll collection during the concession period. The 20 year concession period included construction time. JKHP achieved financial closure on March 17, 2003. The project received a capital grant of Rs 2,110 million (US$ 45.3 million) from NHAI. The construction was completed in March 2005.
