Jal Jeevan Mission Tap Water Connection Project in Karnataka

delayed

The project under the Jal Jeevan Mission aimed to provide tap water connections to rural households in Karnataka. However, 34% of the targeted 72.1 lakh rural households, approximately 24.5 lakh, still lack access to tap water past the March 2024 deadline. The project faced major planning, execution, and financial management flaws, including delays, poor planning, abandoned projects, and weak post-implementation management. The state heavily relied on groundwater sources, raising sustainability concerns. The project also faced issues with water quality monitoring and inadequate lab capacity for contaminant testing.
