Information Inland Waterways Authority of India has come up with Jal Marg Vikas Project with a ticket size of 4633.81 INR Crores. This project in Inland Waterways sub-sector involves The current status of the project is - and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Jal Marg Vikas Project [JMVP] is for capacity augmentation for navigation of 1500 to 2000 DWT vessels on National Waterway-1 with the technical assistance and financial support of the World Bank. JMVP envisages augmenting navigability of National Waterway-1 [NW-1] on the Haldia-Varanasi stretch [1390 km] by [i] fairway development by providing an assured depth between 2.2 to 3.00 metres on the Varanasi-Haldia corridor for at least 330 days in a year to make it navigable for comparatively larger vessels of 1,500-2000 DWT- [ii] Civil, structural, logistics and communications interventions required for the project such as, multi-modal terminals, jetties, Ro-Ro crossings, navigational lock, RIS, night navigation aids etc. and [iii] to create/improve integration opportunities with other surface transport modes.
