Description

Description

The main aim of this project is to establish a new Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCE) on EU-Africa Justice and Security (EU-AFRICA-JUSTSEC). It is to be based at IBEI Barcelona (IBEI) with a strong international dimension by drawing upon long-established and emerging collaborations with a range of researchers in Spain, Europe, Africa and beyond. Extending the work of Prof. Dr Christian Kaunert and Prof Dr Oriol Costa on EU Foreign and Security Policy, notably with the Mediterranean and Africa, and drawing upon the expertise and experience of existing research centres at IBEI, the proposed JMCE would focus on European cooperation with Africa on security, justice and international diplomacy, including partnerships with African countries in these policy areas. The work of the EU-AFRICA-JUSTSEC Centre is expected to be structured around the following six outputs: 1. the development of online and blended courses for teaching substantive EU-Africa issues; 2. a Master's Programme in International Security, including the European Union’s relations with Africa; 3. an Annual IBEI Lecture/Seminar Series, including online to increase access for students and the general public; 4. an Annual Research Workshop/Conference, including online to increase access for students and the general public; 5. a Digital EU-AFRICA Repository (Lecture Streaming & Podcast Series); 6. a Project Website.
