Description

Description

EUqualis will be a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence hosted at the Institut d’études européennes (IEE) of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) dedicated to the challenges associated with ‘Inequality and the EU’. Building on the success of the previous IEE Centre of Excellence dedicated to ‘European Solidarity’, EUqualis will gather a substantial share of the 100+ academics and researchers affiliated with IEE around a shared teaching, training, and research agenda focused on European integration, including ‘Inequality and the EU’. By unpacking the challenges of unequal access directly associated with EU actions, EUqualis will simultaneously address a set of scientific, pedagogical, and societal needs. Rooted in its focus on the politics, legislation, and case-law affecting unequal access across a range of policy areas involving the EU, EUqualis will both produce and facilitate access to innovative expertise in EU Studies. Structured along 7 Work Packages, the 24 tasks, 21 events and 15 deliverables covered by the Centre’s three-year-long work plan will enable the ULB to secure and further develop its position on the world stage as a focal point of competence and knowledge on the EU. The quality controls, immediate visibility, and long-term impact of the project are all tied into the close articulation of the Centre with the IEE that will host it and that is itself already an internationally recognised interdisciplinary institute dedicated to EU Studies. This will allow EUqualis to (1) embed the project into existing programmes, while also investing in the development of new activities and structures; (2) strengthen existing partnerships and establish new ones, both within the university and beyond academia; (3) reach the large IEE community of academics, researchers, and students; and (4) ensure the durability of the project well beyond its lifespan.
