Description
Description | The European Union has established a strong framework for Holocaust remembrance and antisemitism prevention, positioning itself as a global leader through initiatives such as the EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life (2021-2030). While the EU has successfully integrated Holocaust education and antisemitism prevention into its agenda, these lessons remain largely underutilized in Latin America, where antisemitic incidents are increasing. This Jean Monnet Centre will analyze EU policies on Holocaust memory, antisemitism prevention, and human rights, evaluating their effectiveness and adaptation to Latin America. The project will foster transatlantic cooperation, provide academic insights to bridge knowledge gaps, and enhance comparative research on antisemitism trends, legal frameworks, and policy interventions. The Isaac Abarbanel Institute, established as an academic extension of the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary, shares its longstanding commitment to Jewish education, human rights, and intercultural dialogue. With a presence in 25 countries and a network deeply rooted in the region, the Institute is uniquely positioned to lead this initiative. This project will include seminars on EU approaches to Holocaust education, antisemitism prevention, and human rights, along with research-driven discussions on ethical leadership and scholarly engagement on issues of historical memory and justice. Additionally, the project will organize two major international conferences. The first will strengthen academic cooperation with Latin American universities, encouraging them to incorporate courses on Holocaust education and EU antisemitism prevention policies. The second will be held within the framework of the 2026 IHRA plenary meeting, which Argentina will preside over, providing a high-level platform to engage policymakers, academics, and civil society in discussions on Holocaust memory. |
