Description

Description

PROMETHEUS aims to create a spirit of interdisciplinarity amongst students, stakeholders, the public and scholars from diverse disciplines in EU governance with the purpose of generating cross-cutting knowledge that will enhance their awareness of EU affairs and EU values, and their capacity to improve the position of the EU as a global policy-maker when tackling current global and regional challenges. For that purpose, the Jean Monnet action and its team will improve the teaching portfolio, research excellence and academic, policy and public impact of the Department of Social Sciences (DSS) of the Carlos III University (UC3M) in the field of EU studies and affairs. The DSS team and its collaborators aim at establishing and consolidating new interdisciplinary policy and research-based activities and courses that complement the traditional political science approach to EU policy-making, not offered at any other universities in Spain and scarcely in Europe. The Action pursues three general objectives: 1) To strengthen and promote excellence in teaching and research in EU governance and policy-making, by setting up novel courses and policy and research-based initiatives that combine the deployment of interdisciplinary approaches and methods from political science, law, sociology, economics, etc. 2) To foster, expand and consolidate a broader community of scholars, stakeholders and policy-makers and its dialogue to generate knowledge and insights that assist EU policy-making to find innovative and ground-breaking integral solutions to the current global challenges, which will also strengthen the role of the EU in a globalised world. 3) To bring the EU closer to the Spanish and European public and the youth. In this regard, the chair will promote the active involvement of the PROMETHEUS students, young voices and leaders in the academic, policy and public debate.
