Description

Description

The present proposal aims to complement some of the existing actions covering the analysis of the Economic Integration process in Europe and set new activities focused on the future of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in the post-Covid 19 era in terms of teaching, research, and outreaching. For so doing, the Chair will look for synergies with different organizations. Two of them belong to the University of Valencia, namely, the European Documentation Centre (EDC) and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, while the other two are the Regional Government (that manages a Europe Direct information point) and the University Jaume I (with which the applicant has a consortium for research in Economic Integration). Concerning the teaching activities, the prospective JM Chair will take over a package of three regular courses plus the design of one online for high school. The first is an undergraduate course in Economics of the EU that constitutes the core of the European studies at the Faculty of Economics. The second course is a master's degree course in Economic Integration with a multi-disciplinary approach. We target a broad audience regarding academic background (law, business, history, engineering) and geographical origin (European, American or Asian). The third course is also a master's degree course in Monetary and Financial Integration in Europe. This is a brand-new course that pretends to be included in an inter-university program. As a second goal, the JM Chair envisages developing a research program on imbalances and governance in monetary unions. Finally, we present a set of events in cooperation with the EDC of the University of Valencia in terms of publications, conferences, round-tables, book presentations (the so-called European December), and an annual special Memorial conference in honor of the late commissioner Manuel Marin, father of the Erasmus program. Finally, we offer a specialized course on the resources available at Eurostat.
