Description

BACKGROUND Somalia comes from 30 years of political instability and economic difficulty. The civil war and ongoing conflict that started in 1991 fragmented the country, undermined political institutions, and created widespread vulnerability. In 2007, the African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) have worked together to establish the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which is still operating. The EU-Africa project aims to train the Somalian students of Horseed International University (HIU) in European and African studies providing them the tools to understand and compare two regional integration processes: the European one and the African one. OBJECTIVE EU-Africa project aims to train the future political class of Somalia to be specialists in different fields (Economics, Law, Political Science) to understand better the benefits of the European integration process and using it as a model for the African context. RESULTS The project objective will be achieved thanks to the following results: - delivery of a multidisciplinary courses related to the European and African integration processes - preparation of study material for each of the courses delivered in this Jean Monnet Module - publication of at least 3 scientific articles - organization of at least 3 events open to wider public ACTIVITIES The project results will be implemented at the completion of the following activities: - delivery of 360 teaching hours in 6 courses of the Jean Monnet Module - preparation of didactic material for 6 courses dedicated to the European and African studies (regional integration processes) - Research activities leading to the publication of at least 3 articles on the EU in peer-reviewed journals - Involving the main stakeholders and civil society in three dissemination events.
