Jefferson High School Modernization

Portland Public Schools is planning to modernize Jefferson High School. Phase 1 involves constructing a “swing site” that will accommodate 700 students. Phase 2 involves gutting the oldest section of the building­—erected in 1909—except for the theater, student center, commons, kitchen and main gym. Phase 3 entails demolition of those facilities, while students begin moving into the renovated 1909 wing. During this time, the district will also resurface the athletics fields. The new four-story, 207,000-sq-ft building will have a 1,000-seat theater and four large dance studios.
