Description

Description	The Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Virginia Tech and the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) to manage and operate the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) in Newport News. SURATech, LLC, a team including SURA and Virginia Tech along with subcontractors Honeywell International, Longenecker and Associates, Akima Support Operations, and AtkinsRéalis, will assume operations starting June 1, 2026. The contract is initially for five years with potential extension up to 15 years based on performance. The lab will evolve from a single-purpose laboratory to a multi-purpose National Laboratory, continuing its focus on nuclear physics research and advanced scientific computing projects.
