Description
Description | Throughout Europe, a growing number of young women - and more rarely young men - aged 15 to 17 are victims of prostitution. This prostitution takes various forms, notably that of almost non-formal organisations where 3 or 4 victims practice prostitution on behalf of a pimp. These organisations are difficult to identify, which may explain why they are never or almost never mentioned. In France, where a report was recently submitted to the government, it is estimated that the number of minors in prostitution is very likely to be over 10,000, and yet there are no specific protection, prevention or support measures for these young people to date. Although the prostitution of minors is prohibited by law and by European and international treaties in all European countries, nothing has been done to combat this scourge, which probably affects hundreds of thousands of minors in Europe. The subject is taboo. There is no research, no policy in Europe to fight, prevent and support minors in prostitution. Jericho intends to contribute to making this phenomenon known, visible and talked about so that it exists and can be treated. Built in two phases, the project aims first to gather, create and share knowledge on this invisible phenomenon, and then to make this practice known and visible. Through an audacious campaign, it will inform and in so doing develop prevention among young people, suggest avenues to distraught parents, and support the authorities in developing protection policies. These are the 3 axes of Jericho, which will be implemented by the 4 partners of the project (FR, IT and EL), experienced in social work, youth work and European networks, who will bring together their competences to respond. |
