Jersey City Budget Deficit Aid Request

planned

Jersey City is seeking a record-breaking $150 million cash injection from New Jersey’s state government to fill its $255 million budget deficit. The city is facing a 28% gap in its $922 million budget and is warning of inevitable local tax increases and cuts to city government. The aid would likely come through the Department of Community Affairs Transitional Aid program and would be the largest such award ever funded by the program. The city is also undertaking audits and reconsidering contracts to find savings and new revenues, including scrapping the Pompidou art museum project and switching health insurance providers to save costs.
