Description | Huarui Investment Group and Farsighted Investment Group, both private Beijing-based companies, won the 25-year BOT tender for the first phase, 100MW, Jiangsu Rudong Wind Power Plant near Nantong city in Rudong county, Jiangsu province. Jiangsu Unipower Wind Power Co. was the project company, reflecting the Farsighted Group's American subsidary, Unipower Inc.. Farsighted's Netherlands-based subsidiary Europe China Power BV was also involved in the project. The Rudong project was the first Chinese wind farm to be tendered on a competitive bidding basis. The State Development Reform Commission approved the tender in 2002 and the project was awarded in September 2003. Rudong County borders on the south of the Huanghai Sea and lies in the northern bank of the Yangtze River Delta. The project had an estimated cost of Rmb 800 million (US$97 million) and was scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2005. Construction began in August of 2004. The project could be followed by two further phases which would take the installed capacity of the wind farm complex to between 500MW and 850MW by 2010 and cost an estimated US$246 million, making it the biggest wind farm in Asia. 6 January 2005 Business Daily Update English Copyright 2005 China Daily Information Company.
