Description

Description

The Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area is a 64-acre green space project in Mississauga, Ward 1, aimed at restoring the shoreline previously used for industrial work and coal-fired power generation. The project includes a 5.5-metre-wide multi-use Waterfront Trail with bike and pedestrian lanes, boardwalks, lookouts, wetlands, native plants and trees, and diverse wildlife species. It is a collaboration between Credit Valley Conservation, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, and the Region of Peel. Construction began in 2016 using a sustainable model that reused over 1.7 million cubic metres of clean excess soil and recycled rubble from regional infrastructure projects. The conservation area is expected to open to the public on May 30, 2026.
