Description | In 1998, Cathay International Water (CIW), a subsidiary of Cathay International Holdings of Hong Kong, was awarded a 26-year contract for the construction and operation of the 400,000 cubic meters per day capacity Dayang water treatment plant in Jinan city, Shandong Province. To implement the contract, a joint venture project company was formed between CIW (60%) and the Jinan Municipality (40%). The total project cost was US$30 million. The project was given a guaranteed rate of return of 14.85%. However, in 2002 the Chinese Government ruled that guaranteed rates of return promised to investors for infrastructure projects were illegal and the project was subsequently canceled. None None |
