The development objectives of Jordan's Second Tourism Development Project are to: a) create the conditions for an increase in sustainable and environmentally sound tourism in Petra, Wadi Run. Jerash and Karak; and b) to realize tourism related employment and income generation potential at project sites. The project consists of four components. The first, Petra Region infrastructure development and environmental management, will consist of road rehabilitation, urban infrastructure development, site enhancement, visitor management, environmental protection and management, and Petra Region Planning Council Capacity building. The Second Component, Wadi Run development and environmental conservation, will consist of: infrastructure development; protected area conservation and management; visitor management services; and local community, especially Bedouin women, income generating activities. The Karak and Jerash Tourism Development Pilot Program containing feasibility studies and implementation is the third component; while sector development support, including technical assistance to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and project management services, is the fourth.
