Joint Barrage Project on Krishna River

Telangana has proposed the construction of a barrage downstream of the Narayanapura dam on the Krishna river as part of a joint plan with Karnataka. The project aims to address drinking water needs and support existing lift irrigation schemes in both states. Three possible locations downstream of the Narayanapura spillway have been identified, with Koratakunda village emerging as the most suitable site after technical and economic studies. The proposed barrage will have a storage capacity of one tmcft of water at a full reservoir level of 332 metres, designed not to interfere with upstream barrages.
