Description
Description | The German FC commitment in the waste sector in Tunisia, consisting of the Municipal Waste Landfills III and FIVAD modules, is intended to continue the successful German-Tunisian cooperation in the waste sector in the form of an open program. It includes the preparation and implementation of waste management investment measures such as the construction and equipment of organized landfills, waste transfer stations and recycling and treatment facilities. The program includes, on the one hand, the completion of the first phase of the nationwide implementation of an organized municipal waste management system in Tunisia, and, on the other hand, components for the further development of the system towards an environmentally and resource-saving circular economy. As part of an accompanying measure, investment-related qualifications are intended to support the sponsor, particularly with regard to the further development towards a circular economy and the associated implementation of recycling and treatment systems. The overarching development policy objective of the FC program is to contribute to the sustainable protection of the environment, in particular to the protection of scarce water resources, to the protection of the climate and to the reduction of health risks for the Tunisian population in the program area. This will be achieved by completing orderly waste disposal and by introducing environmentally friendly recycling and treatment facilities. Furthermore, a contribution will be made to promoting an environmentally and resource-friendly circular economy by financing investments in the material and energy recycling of waste. The direct target group is the population living in the respective project regions (governorates) who will be connected to an orderly municipal waste disposal system, as well as those employed in waste disposal. The indirect target group is the inhabitants of Tunisia, who will be indirectly protected by the project (e.g. also through the introduction of a more extensive circular economy) from negative environmental damage and health impairments. |
