Description
Description | Latgale region and Utena County both see tourism as the key industry of their future economic revival. This project is a continuation of previous projects of the Latgale region and Utena County. Former projects were aimed at establishing joint tourism destinations. Previous cooperation has lead to greater administrative capacity, further development ideas and a common strategy. The project aims at helping deepen knowledge on tourism development and focuses on specific investments in the water tourism infrastructure, along with market product development and capacity building activities. The project is bound to provide a greater range of tourism brochures, maps and services, facilitate economic growth around tourism and improve the coordination among water tourism destinations along the border. The project will benefit 23 water recreation sites located in 8 municipalities in total; 10 sites in 2 districts of Utena County, Lithuania, and 13 sites in 6 municipalities of Latgale region, Latvia. Project partners are coordinating the development and promotion of 14 water-based cross border tourism products, involving improved water-based tourism sites, conducting trainings and seminars to facilitate the exchange of experience, cross-border product development workshops and the publication of tourism routes maps. Two new tourism services are created by Livani Active Tourism Centre and Livani Water Tourism Gallery. An extensive marketing campaign has been carried out in local media. In addition, joint participation at the Balttour and Vivatour tourism exhibitions has helped to create contacts and platform for upscaling of activity. The websites www.latgale.lv, www.utena.aps.lt, www.balticlakes.com and www.ezerukrastas.lt are being regularly updated to provide information on tourism and access to project-related material. |
