Description | The JP Magufuli Bridge, also known as the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, is a 3.2-kilometre long bridge across the Gulf of Mwanza on Lake Victoria in Tanzania. It replaces a decades-old ferry system, drastically reducing crossing time from up to three hours to under five minutes. The bridge includes a 520-metre low-pylon cable-stayed section, dual carriageways, pedestrian walkways, emergency lanes, and central medians, supporting traffic speeds of up to 120 km/h and loads up to 160 tonnes. It was constructed with government funding and involved over 700 Tanzanians during its five-year construction period. |
