Description | The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project is a flagship hydropower project in Tanzania designed to generate 2,115 megawatts of electricity. However, it is currently operating at only 40 percent of its installed capacity due to bottlenecks in the national power transmission system. Efforts are underway to improve transmission infrastructure, including the development of a 400kV transmission project to Lindi Region and two major 400kV lines from Chalinze to Kinyerezi to Mkuranga and from Chalinze to Dodoma to enhance power evacuation and nationwide transmission. |
