Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project

The Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project is one of Africa's largest infrastructure developments, located on the Rufiji River in eastern Tanzania. The project includes a 131-metre-high dam and a modern hydropower station designed to generate 2,115 megawatts of electricity, more than doubling Tanzania's power generation capacity and providing clean energy to over 60 million people. It also helps regulate flooding along the Rufiji River. The project is built by an Egyptian consortium through a joint venture between Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, employing thousands of Tanzanian and Egyptian workers and facilitating technology transfer and engineering training.
