Description

In 1995, the municipal government of Jundiai awarded a 20 year contract to build, operate and transfer the Jundiai Wastewater Treatment Plant (Estacao de Tratamento de Esgotos de Jundiai – ETEJ) to the Companhia de Saneamento de Jundiai (CSJ) consortium. The project will treat domestic and industrial sewerage from the city of Jundiai, which had a population of 266,000 when the concession was granted. By the end of 1998, CSJ started operating the facilities. Companhia de Saneamento de Jundiai was formed by Construtora Coveg (33.34%), Construtora Augusto Velloso (33.33%), and Tejofran (33.33%). The project financing has been achieved as follows: 50% was financed by BNDES, the Brazilian state owned development bank; 12.5% was financed by FMO (Netherlands Development Finance Company) and 37.5% was financed by the wining consortium. CSJ won a public tender based on the lowest offered tariff and was granted a BOT contract. The annual investments undertaken by Companhia de Seneamento de Jundiai, year by year were: 1997 – US$ 0 million (R$ 0.01 million) 1998 – US$ 17.2 million (R$ 20.8 million) 1999 – US$ 0 million (R$ 0.09 million) 2000 – US$ 1 million (R$ 2 million) 2001 – US$ 1 million (R$ 2.2 million) 2002 – US$ 0.5 million (R$ 1.4 million) None
