Description

Description

JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi is well known for its architectural design inspired by the legendary dragon lying coiled. Dragons are a significant symbol in the birth myth of Vietnam, and Vietnamese people believe that they are descendants of dragons. Prior to the construction of this landmark hotel, Hyundai E&C built Bitexco Financial Tower, one of skyscrapers in Ho Chi Minh City, modelled on louts. With this, Hyundai E&C successfully constructed the country’s two landmark buildings in Ho Chi Minh City and the capital city Hanoi which symbolize the national flower lotus and the national animal dragon, respectively. The bending load of the cantilevered design of the landmark hotel is more than four times higher than that of general buildings. To maintain the stability of the unique structure, Hyundai E&C applied a variety of truss structures composed of about 9,500 tons of rebar and 2,300 tons of structural steel.JW Marriott Hanoi Hotel enjoyed huge popularity as former US President Barack Obama stayed in the hotel during his visit to Vietnam in 2016. It received the Design Innovation Award from ENR New York in 2011, and the Gold Building Team Award from the Building Design and Construction and the Excellence in Structural Engineering Award from the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations in 2014.
