IFC’ proposed investment is to refinance Kacific’s first satellite broadband project (named “Kacific 1”). The geostationary earth orbit, high-throughput satellite was launched in December 2019 and became commercially operational in March 2020. The satellite antennae are the only earth-based facilities of the project which were installed within existing five teleport farms in the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia.IFC’s proceeds will be used for refinancing the loans for the already purchased satellite and includes: (i) US$92mn of senior debt from IFC, ADB and MCPP; (ii) US$64mn of mezzanine debt from IDA-PSW; and (iii) up to US$2mn loan equivalent amount in interest rate hedges covering a notional amount of US$134mn.  Kacific, headquartered in Singapore, is a provider of broadband connectivity to wholesale and retail clients. Kacific sells unpackaged bandwidth on long term take-or-pay capacity to wholesale clients include governments, mobile network operators (MNOs), and large internet service providers (ISPs) directly. Kacific franchise local network providers on a revenue share basis to operates retail business.
