Description | The project involves the operation, maintenance, refurbishment and expansion of two hydroelectric power stations in Niger, a state in central Nigeria. The two plants are cascaded on the Niger River 100km apart with Kainji dam situated upstream of Jebba. Kainji was commissioned as Nigeria’s first hydropower plant in 1968 while the Jebba power plant was commissioned in 1985. They have installed capacities of 760 MW and 578.4 MW, respectively, generating an average 30% of Nigeria’s power. The private party is also responsible for designing and conducting restorations; generating power; selling the electricity; and providing ancillary services. |
