Description | The Kainji Multipurpose Project for Nigeria will help finance the first stage of a the development scheme on the Niger River at Kainji Island. This project will consist of; 1) a construction camp which will provide temporary quarters for construction personnel; 2) construction of an airstrip and control facilities; 3) a switchyard located on Hainji Island; 4) two stage navigation lock and canal system on the left bank; 5) an earth fill saddle dam on the left bank; 6) a power station at the toe of the dam which will contain four generators; and 7) construction of a concrete main dam. The township of New Bussa will be constructed adjacent to the construction camp as part of the project. All of the facilities constructed for the camp will be available for the relocated inhabitants of the new town. This project will provide additional benefits which will materialized in the areas of agriculture, fisheries and navigation. |
