KAKAMEGA MILK PROCESSING PLANT

The County Government of Kakamega commissioned and completed a feasibility study which affirmed the availability of milk and the need to set up a milk processing plant in the County. The County Government then invested KES 70Million in the acquisition of land and construction of the Kakamega Milk Processing Plant with oxidation ponds for treatment of waste water in Malava sub county. The county government is looking for an investor to equip and operationalize the plant. The project is informed by the following objectives; i. To improve the livelihood of citizens through employment. The factory is anticipated to employ 125 workers directly and an additional 1,000 jobs indirectly. ii. To improve farmers income by offering market for their milk. The factory has the potential to be a reliable off-taker for dairy farmers and provide value income to uplift the community. Farmers have the potential to earn higher wages compared to the minimum Kenya wage at KES 13k per month. iii. To reduce malnutrition among the children and the elderly. The approximately 29% of children under 5 with stunted growth in Kakamega County will have access to better nutrition under the improved dairy sector. iv. To Increase revenue of the County and the Country at large
