Description | The Kalai-II hydroelectric project is a 1,200 MW run-of-the-river hydropower project proposed on the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh. It involves the construction of a 128.5 m concrete gravity dam and an underground powerhouse. The project will clear 869 hectares of forest, including submergence of 638 hectares in the Anjaw and Namsai forest divisions. The project is owned by THDC India Limited and has a project cost of Rs 14,176.26 crore. The project has received in-principle forest clearance from the Environment Ministry's Forest Advisory Committee (FAC). A wildlife management plan focusing on the conservation of the critically endangered White-Bellied Heron habitat will be reviewed by the Wildlife Institute of India. |
