Description | Kaliningrad Mobile Network (KMN) operates a NMT 450 cellular system that started its commercial operations in April 1995. KMN was jointly established by Balticom and Rostelecom. These companies and the Electrosvyaz (the former Kaliningrad public telephone company, and later North-West telecom) held equal stakes in KMN. In 1999 Rostelecom sold its stake to Balticom Mobile increasing it’s holding to 65.5%. The network is comprised of 6 base stations with a capacity of 10 thousand subscribers. Ericsson supplied the equipment. In addition, KMN bought three base stations installed in the city by Telecom Finland. Baltikom was responsible for the financing of the project. End of 2003 Balticum stake was sold to RTDC holding, one of the co-owners of Sky Link. In June 2004, North-West Telecom (NWT) sold 33.5% of Kaliningrad Mobile Networks to MS Direct, a Sky Link member. In 2003 Balticom put on sale its 66.5%.Although the date of purchase was not confirmed but the purchaser was RTDC holding, one of the co-owners of Sky Link.
