Kamloops Clean Energy Centre Hydrogen Project

A pilot project at the Kamloops pulp mill to generate hydrogen on site and use it as fuel to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project aims to replace about 16% of the natural gas used in the lime kiln with hydrogen, cutting approximately 7,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The hydrogen is produced by splitting water using electricity, classified as green hydrogen due to BC Hydro's hydroelectric power. The project seeks financing from Natural Resources Canada and involves Indigenous ownership.
