Description | The Kamoa-Kakula copper smelter in the Democratic Republic of Congo is Africa's largest and greenest copper smelter with a capacity of 500,000 tonnes per annum. It uses direct-to-blister smelting technology to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. The facility commenced its heat-up phase on November 21, 2025, and aims to reach full capacity within 12-18 months. It includes advanced power management systems with 60 MW UPS and 180 MW diesel backup generation to ensure operational stability. |
